Thinkers
Posted in Dear Diary, Random Thoughts, Reports
The past weeks I spent halfheartedly working on my online portfolio site philstrahl.com in order to spread some more applications for my summer job — hopefully in the field of digital visual effects and compositing. And today I did it: I sent my application to Digital Domain.

HD – what now?
Posted in Funny?, Video
Hehe, just something funny I stumbled across in the “cheapy-box” of a local bookstore. I just hope your pet isn’t affected by HD! But still click the link to know what’s behind this HD craze, and why it’s so serious to know about it…

To flickr or not to flickr?
Posted in Dear Diary, Photography
This is just a little test to see how my sytlesheet is working for flickr blog-posts. I am not sure whether I want to say good-bye to the great NextGEN Gallery plug-in for WordPress I have been using all those years now. Should I really switch to flickr? What do you think?
And by the way: You just witness a major design-wise relaunch of the Promenade Blog, after the years I got a little bored with the standard visual appearance of this WordPress blog, so I stared in August 2007 a major redesign. But today I finally finished it in a couple of hours for the next couple of years. Although everything seems okay on first glance, there might happen some strange layouts on some pages — to be resolved soon.

Alex’s Party
Posted in Dear Diary, Funny?, People, Video
Usually I don’t post party pictures or crude cell-phone videos, but some people needed official proof that I really showed up there. So here’s a video of some people at the party. Sorry to all those nice people who are not in the video and sorry to all who are shown but whose names I don’t know (yet). The video is now working – at last – shame on you, Mr YouTube! -

The max_result_rect error in After Effects
Posted in Computing, Rants, Vista Issues
Just wanted to let you know: After Effects CS3 is bitchy, unstable and has a bad performance: It crashes suddenly and with no reason, while it stays in RAM and on screen forever when you quit. And it produces errors with gray-scale and/or CMYK PNGs. -

ShirtPress
Posted in CGI & Rendering, Reports, Tutorial
I am more of a satisfyzer (yes, just I made that word up) than a maximizer but I am not up for any compromises when it comes to t-shirts: If I have an idea about a certain print I want then I won’t settle for anything less than exactly that. Yes, I was looking for that perfect, one and only DeLorean-logo shirt! -

Zipher, Revision 1
Posted in Fonts
Fonts usually never grow old, they just become classics. But an incomplete font only gets forgotten. And as a hobby font-creator myself I produced an incomplete font, Zipher and wasn’t even aware of the incompleteness. Luckily I got an email from Richard Smith who sent me his request, to add the missing P with filled counter, along with a Patron-sized donation which made him instantly the person who donated the most money for the Promenade Blog. Oh, about the font: You can download the new and improved version from the Zipher page.
