Dear Uwe Boll,
Posted in Films
I’ve noticed over the past years that quite some people feel that you should die instantly of all the shitload of donkey diarrhea you put on moviegoers, fans of the horror genre and fans of the video games you rape in your films. But I tell those people “Give the poor man a break!” because as some kind of pseudo-filmmaker myself I understand that you must love your film-making, ordering people around and getting money for it. But is this the true you?

A Good Performance, Part 4: Security
Posted in Computing
I used to believe that the most expensive security software is the best which is simply not true. I bought a couple of years Norton’s Personal Firewall, later McAffee’s firewall and currently I am having my issues with Norton Ghost (but I won’t get into that, no worries). While there is very good and very versatile software out there I’ll take a closer look on the downsides of the software for the poorest: The inexperienced user. -

A Good Performance, Part 3: Media Players
Posted in Computing
You listen to mp3s on your machine, don’t you? Everybody does. You save most of your precious memory by listening to your tunes on an external mp3-player but, honestly, who ever does that? I make a wild guess and assume you use iTunes or Winamp for your media library, some soft-core users even – gasp! – Windows Media Player. Do you know how much performance you lose when you just listen to your beloved bands? Too much I say. -

A Good Performance, Part 2: Authoring
Posted in Computing
What CD/DVD-authoring software do you use? Please, don’t say the built in Windows one.Nero? I bet. But why not? After all it is a name we all know for years and most computers come pre-bundled with Nero, and if you’re out of luck, as well with Photoshop Elements, Microsoft Works (if it still exists) and/or a trial version of McAffee’s or Norton’s Firewall and anti virus software. -

A Good Performance, Part 1: Drivers
Posted in Computing
Most of today’s programs and drivers that come with a scanner or a digital camera are memory-guzzling crap with shiny icons designed by idiots for the dumbest users possible. They have wizards and templates, images and animations that slow down your system very effectively. Here’s how you can avoid some of that — but it may also limit some fancy features of your hardware. -

A Good Performance — Intro
Posted in Computing
When I had gone through the troubles of setting up my computer after a devastating crash (Note to self: *Never ever* fiddle around with system files that have kernel, core or runtime in them when you don’t know *exactly* what you are doing.) I seized the moment and set up my machine for maximum performance rather than maximum-RAM-filled-when-running-only-Windows.In the next couple of days I will provide some hints and tips on how to set up a versatile, yet well performing system with the focus on what memory guzzlers to avoid. And how to safe some money along the way by avoiding the expensive brands.

Bloody Hell!
Posted in Dear Diary, Games, Reports
I’m feeling a little better and now and the fever is gone. In fact I felt so well today that I had the chance to play the Death Toll campaign and it works way better to play in a team with a real friend than with some kids who take your med-kits and startle any witch in sight. But blood flowed not only in the game today.

“I don’t feel so well” update
Posted in Dear Diary
It’s interesting how my media consumption has changed since I am down with my illness. I watch more TV than during the whole last year and spend more time online reading slams about the worst products on Amazon.com such as still overpriced e-Book readers or overpriced educational software for kids. It’s terrible what trash is out there!
On the plus side it is interesting how my sickness evens out everything. I’ve slept only four hours today and don’t feel it. My feeling of hunger is as nonexistent as my urge for coffee. Sounds like I am really not doing well!

Zombie Fever
Posted in Dear Diary, Games, Reports
Here we go again. When posting my previous post, titled Sicko!, I was referring to my first moments of playing Vavle’s Left 4 Dead. But I didn’t expect it to become worse.
