The Smell of Summer

Here in Austria, and especially in Salzburg, it really takes some time until the eternal winter changes to spring and then magically transforms into something foreigners call “summer”. But there are ways to experience the beauty of Salzburg without really having summer already. Still there are some things in the change from the cold to the warm you certainly won’t like to smell… -

The past weeks I spent halfheartedly working on my online portfolio site philstrahl.com in order to spread some more applications for my summer job — hopefully in the field of digital visual effects and compositing. And today I did it: I sent my application to Digital Domain. -

The max_result_rect error in After Effects

Just wanted to let you know: After Effects CS3 is bitchy, unstable and has a bad performance: It crashes suddenly and with no reason, while it stays in RAM and on screen forever when you quit. And it produces errors with gray-scale and/or CMYK PNGs. -

Just great! As soon as I settle for something in the great Format Wars it is the wrong thing. According to CRN Toshiba’s CEO Atsutoshi Nishida made a point a few hours ago and officially surrendered to Sony’s Blu-Ray format after many months of battling. -

Busy me! Especially until Sunday afternoon where a crapload of work, pardon my bluntness, need to be done in order to pursue a quiet and contemplative Christmas. But at least yesterday I had the opportunity to sneak away for half an hour and came back with a wonderful Christmas tree. -

I love Valve‘s Steam network. No wait — I hate it! I feel like ranting: The last three hours I was working hard to get a Maya model exported, textured and imported into the game. And figuring out how the exporter handles textures was nearly half the deal. -

Not So Kind(le)

Out of a spark of curiosity I attempoted to order Amazon’s Kindle from Amazon.com. Not because it is such a great thing that rockets human civilization to the next level, but because I am a helpless early-adopter and Gadgetinator. Now I only wish I was in an US prison. Because of that. ‘Nuff said.
