Posted in Random Thoughts, Rants, Seph Carissa / texx sound
I couldn’t sleep and so I snuggled up with my guitar, below is the result. In fact there even are lyrics but they are too personal to appear here.texx sound – Rain into Ice. 2009.

Surf your mp3s!
Posted in Games, Music
Ever played Audiosurf? That addictive little fucker! I’ve downloaded the demo because I was a little bit curious as I always am when there’s some hype ebbing away and I feel “underground” enough to give it a try myself. But what is Audiosurf anyway? It creates from a song of your choice a unique race track resembling the tempo, intensity and dynamic of that song. Nothing really new. But the community connection via Steam evokes some Trackmania United atmosphere: If there’s somebody who’s played the same song as you then the game automatically compares your scores and performance. As a competitive grunting male I am prone to scoreboards… If you already know what it is about please refer to the last paragraphs — there’s a challenge for you…

♫ Jazzy
Posted in Dear Diary, Seph Carissa / texx sound
I’ve been practicing and strumming the past four days and this is what I came up with. It’s very rough and my technique is very amateurish, of course, but it’s already setting a mood which I am very comfortable with. Maybe I switch completely to jazz music for a while? If you guess and tell me on which song the chords in the background are based on, you’ll get a little surprise — provided you tell it to me personally. Let the competition begin!
The picture to the right is just a visual help for you to get in the right mood for this tune.texx sound – Green Grass. 2008.

The Smell of Summer
Posted in Dear Diary, Music, Random Thoughts, Reports
Here in Austria, and especially in Salzburg, it really takes some time until the eternal winter changes to spring and then magically transforms into something foreigners call “summer”. But there are ways to experience the beauty of Salzburg without really having summer already. Still there are some things in the change from the cold to the warm you certainly won’t like to smell…

♫ The General
Posted in Music, Seph Carissa / texx sound
I haven’t felt the urge to get creative with music since I scored my dear fellow student Zoki‘s short movie Sacred Tree which was a lot of work and great fun. Yesterday, however, I was invited by another dear fellow student, Jot a.k.a. Supernintendo Chalmers, to bring my guitar for a jam session. But, no, I won’t post any of my crappy ad-libs. -

The Infinity of Music
Posted in Music, Random Thoughts
What makes a certain piece of music stand out and what just makes is as random as elevator muzak? Yet there’s music for every occasion and in every place: When you turn on your TV, when you go shopping, even when you try to sleep and have Italian neighbors. -

In Rainbows or: A short history of copying
Posted in Music, Random Thoughts, Rants, Reviews
Radiohead‘s latest album is out! And I discovered it four days late. But I like their straight way of marketing: The album only comes as download from their website 1 as a nice .zip with ten mp3s in 160kbps quality. How much does it cost? You decide. No really! You decide! - I know, I know there’s the boxed version too, but it won’t ship until December ↩

♫ Video Game Music
Posted in Games, Music, Seph Carissa / texx sound
I have been quite productive during the holidays but still wasn’t able to finish the last part of the Zodiac Font Family. But about a month ago I finished Contact for the DS. Especially some tunes of the music still linger in the back of my head but back then I wanted to make something in the style of the Battle music of a Japanese RPG. And before that I was layouting a couple of tunes for Jonny 1 Hennebichler’s computer game concept Skyscrapers, a mix between Bridge Builder, SimTower and a little Hotel Giant. Although it’s never going to be made I think the tunes came off quite nicely. And because today’s my birthday I want them to be your present too.- yes, Johnny without the “h”. Jonny. ↩

♫ Angelo
Posted in Music, Seph Carissa / texx sound
I finally feel ready to blog some new audio piece by me and my alternate personality, texx sound who pushes me to produce music now and then. And sometimes, like last week, he comes from the depths of my subconscious he steps down into my ego, takes it over and won’t let me go to sleep until I finally make another musical piece that he’s satisfied with. So here it is, finished around 5:30am after an 19 hrs day and with 3 hours of sleep to come. -

♫ Lord of the Rats
Posted in Music, Rants, Seph Carissa / texx sound
My recent submission Lord of the Rats (listen below) for OverClocked Remix was rejected, I’ve worked on it for about five weeks. But I just sensed the rejection coming on the horizon but didn’t dare to look.
